Term 3 TAS Report
Term 3 has been an extremely busy term in the TAS/VET faculty.
The Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber, Year 12 Design and Technology and the Year 12 Society and Culture class have completed and submitted their major projects and their Personal Interest Projects and all of the projects have now been marked by NESA.
Our Year 12 classes have completed their studies and I would like to thank the TAS/VET staff for their continued hard work and their dedication shown towards their students. I am sure the hard work of our students will be rewarded in December when the HSC results are released. The Year 12 Hospitality students who have successfully completed their competencies have achieved either a Certificate of Attainment or their Certificate II in Hospitality Food and Beverage. Our Year 11 students have just completed their exams and I must congratulate them on their diligence and their efforts leading up to the exams. Year 11 Hospitality students have been very busy working on their Cluster C and designing tour plans, these include plans for the Intercontinental &Crown Plaza Hotels, Sea World, Luna Park and various tourist attractions around Australia.
Our Year 11 and Yr 10 Hospitality students must be congratulated on their amazing efforts and support in preparing and helping the Year 5 students from Gosford and Point Clare primary schools on the Year 5 Taster Day in Week 8.
All of our classes have been engaged in many different activities throughout the term. There is always an array of tantalising aromas wafting from our kitchens ranging from our Stage 4 Technology mandatory classes through to our Stage 6 classes. Our workshops downstairs are always a hive of activity and many functional and beautiful pieces of furniture and projects have been designed and produced by our students. Our Stage 5 Food Technology classes have produced outstanding assessment tasks and our Year 9IST class and Mrs Hogan had a lot of fun with their Robot Wars assessment task. Our Stage 5 iSTEM class and Miss Reynen have been very busy with various projects. One in particular was the building of their water bottle rockets and the successful launching of their rockets across the oval. The students have had a real blast from watching their rockets go the distance across the oval.
Our collaborative learning spaces have been buzzing with activity this term. The Year 8 STEM classes have been using the rooms to their full potential and it is fantastic to see other classes booking the rooms to use. It is always a hive of activity! The classes are working on a rotation and some of the projects include, the Power Anchor, Roller Coasters and Earthquakes. We are very proud of our Year 11 Hospitality and Retail Services students who have completed their first round of Work Placement this term. Many of our students were rewarded by securing part time employment from their host businesses.
Our Year 11 Hospitality students are to be congratulated on the outstanding catering for the Year 12 Graduation, the food was beautifully presented and served by our students.
The Stage 5 Hospitality class and Mrs Pratt must also be congratulated for their expertise in making a range of espresso coffees for staff members and for also catering for a staff morning tea in Week 9 of this term. Their assortment of sandwiches and chocolate brownies looked very professional! On behalf of the TASVET faculty I wish all of our families a safe and relaxing holiday.
