Performing Arts Gala

Tracie Eastwood

Head of Learning - Performing Arts

2017 is the first year that Brunswick Secondary College has had a dedicated faculty solely for the Performing Arts.  Encompassing all that is offered to our students in Music, Dance and Drama, from both a curriculum and co-curricular aspect this vibrant and vital area of education now rightly has a clear pathway, equal with all other subject areas.

The Performing Arts Gala was a showcase of our students’ finest work and a celebration of 5 specialist arts practices - Music, Dance, Drama, Media and Visual Arts. At Brunswick Secondary College our students engage in rich, varied and meaningful arts experiences and the school continues to build a culture of student performance and exhibition within the school, local and wider communities.  We are fortunate to have dedicated teachers who are currently working in the industry as professional artists and who are also passionate about their teaching.  Students are inspired by our teachers’ experience while also exploring and extending their own creative passions and talents.

I would like to congratulate all our students this evening and may your performing arts experience continue to inform your education, consistently presenting you with challenges and opportunities to grow, to discover and to be all that you can be.

Emily Palekis

Director of Music

The 2017 Performing Arts Gala was the culmination of not just months of practice and rehearsing, but years of dedicated commitment to learning the craft of performance.

The program celebrated the rich diversity of our school community and our students’ interests, with a wide range of cultures and musical styles represented. From traditional Guinean drumming to traditional northern Greece, from swinging Jazz to the hits of Broadway, it had it all!

I have had the privilege of working with the voice students and I am always impressed with how they approach their performances pieces. Both Brunswick Voices and Chamber Voices work consistently and with dedication from the whole group, showing great respect to all participants.

Year 12

I participated in the 2017 Gala on Monday as the very first year 12 dance soloist! Doing VCE dance includes many performances so this was an awesome opportunity to perform in front of another audience. Everyone was so supportive throughout, and we all had heaps of fun on the performance day. I felt so lucky to have this chance to dance and to show my peers what I am able to do, and to be surrounded by so much amazing talent.

It was nice to be in and to watch a concert that included all aspects of performing arts at BSC. I also had fun performing in different groups and seeing what my friends can do.

The Performing Arts Gala was great fun and I  definitely hope to be in it again. I was really excited to dance on the Clocktower stage in our sparkly costumes!

The debut of the Performing Arts Gala was fantastic. All the acts ran so smoothly and there was a wonderful selection from each artistic discipline. My favourite thing about the evening was the addition of dance and drama performances to the event. I look forward to seeing many more Galas!

I really enjoyed the Performing Arts Gala. Everyone’s performances were spectacular and very entertaining. I was a performer in the show, singing  with the Brunswick Voices choir. I also really enjoyed performing on stage.
