The Lofties

Placemats, pumpkin spook & family stories

This term in the loft room we are living the expression 'a change is as good as a holiday'.  Not only did we have a term break, but when we came back we had carpet!  That’s a change AND a holiday.

The Lofties were busy helping prepare the Kevin Borland Hall for the year 12 Valedictory Dinner.  We painted and drew lots of placemats, and made super long paper chains with the help of the biggies.  When we found out that the theme was 'Nature' we went on a nature walk.  We stopped to admire the mulberries, and maybe eat just one or two.  We were inspired by the plants and the animals that we have here at Arlington when painting our Placemats.  We watched Austin’s Butterfly to help us think about positive and constructive feedback.

We also enjoyed a visit from Laureate Professor Marilyn Fleer, PhD, and a media team who took lots of footage of us remembering our Playworlds' Project from Term 3.  The team at Monash has visited our Kindergarten previously and has developed an App for educationalists interested in exploring how children develop their conceptual understanding around science and engineering.  You can access the app here.  You might like to have a sneaky peek at some of the photos here too!

The Lofties became quite enamoured of Halloween, and many of us dressed for the occasion.  We developed questions about the holiday, and prepared a delicious batch of Pumpkin Spook...soup, and popcorn which we ate from paper baskets which Talitha showed us how to fold.

The Lofties are embarking on a project all about family stories.  We all have one.  Like the time Aunty Mavis lost her reading glasses and they turned up in the trifle!  We are going to collect a story from our family, our parents are helping out here, and using our knowledge about the genre of retell, we’ll have a go at sharing that story.  We are using Seesaw to capture these stories so that they can be a part of our learning portfolio.
