Principal's Report

In my last editorial for 2018, we are thrilled to share that the Class of 2018 achieved the best top end results the College has enjoyed since 2012. We are proud of every child’s VCE scores and very excited to announce that eight (8) students achieved ATARs over 95. The school’s Dux is Philippa Gan, who scored 99.15, placing her in the top 1% of the state. This follows Philippa’s excellent achievement of a perfect 50/50 Study Score in Studio Arts last year. Other high achievers included Young House and Swimming Captain Claire Dempsey who scored 98.65; Music Captain Timothy Gilling who scored 98.6; Berry House Captain Niamh Jones who scored 98.3; Learmonth House Captain Nyah Bester who scored 97.6; School Captain Claudia Roberts who scored 97.35, Young House Captain Kyle Herbertson who scored 97.25 and School Vice Captain Alec Jagger who scored 97.15. There were numerous study scores of 40 or more and I’m delighted that College offers boys and girls such a vast range of subjects for them to discover their own study path, suited to their own strengths and interests. Expert teaching, high expectations, excellent career advice, regular access to academic assistance and our strong focus on student wellbeing is critical to our success.
A concise summary of our 2018 VCE results:
- 4 students or 7% of cohort scored above 98
- 8 students or 13% of cohort scored above 95
- 13 students or 21% of cohort scored above 90
- 20 students or 33% of cohort scored above 85
- 28 students or 46% of cohort scored above 80
- 42 students or 69% of cohort scored above 70
- Mean ATAR score 76.1
I acknowledge the very fine work of all our teachers and most especially departing staff: Jen Hutton, Jane Bromley, Alex Smith, Joy Craig, Phil Sanders and Ian Clare. All are much loved teachers, highly respected colleagues and we thank them for their fabulous contribution.
Finally, I thank the student body, staff, Old Collegians and parents for your continued support and encouragement this past year. I wish all families a peaceful and blessed Christmas and look forward to your company in the New Year. May love be in your life, may hope be in your hearts and may peace be in our world!
