School Production

The curtain's down
Preshil’s production of We Will Rock You! was a fabulous testament to the energy and dedication of the students, teachers and parents. It was a thrill to see so many of the school community support the show.
This exciting rendition of Queen’s We Will Rock You! was directed by Year 11 student Lucinda Greene. As she says, “We Will Rock You! was an absolute pleasure to direct. It was my first time directing a school musical and an incredible learning experience; the power we have as students and what we can achieve if we work together.”
Lucinda poured her heart and soul into the show, spending many hours rehearsing the cast, whose ages ranged from 10 to 18 years. The dedication of the cast was evident in their engaging and enthralling performances, and seeing students from both campuses working together was truly inspiring.
Lucinda was supported by Year 11 colleagues Tahlia Dimattina, Charlie Harrison-Dowling and Mason Cremasco. The inimitable force of Tahlia was evident throughout the rehearsal process as well as the show week. As producer, Tahlia arranged everything from the licensing of the script to creating costumes and running the back-stage crew. Not only did Tahlia choreograph and teach the students the dances but when Lucinda needed anything done Tahlia made it happen! Charlie tested his knowledge of sound engineering and took up the challenge of amplifying the cast and band, an admirable undertaking.
The visual and aural aesthetic of the show was a collaboration between Lucinda, Tahlia and Charlie and supported and realised by teachers Anthony Cavagna, Michelle Berner, Chris McDuff and Karoline Kuti and students Liv Carlisle, Eleanor Theeboom, Bea Ryman Lacey, Mason Cremasco and Anja Margach.
As we all know, We Will Rock You! is all about the music of Queen and our band and singers did themselves proud. Supported by Michelle Berner, Chris McDuff and Karoline Kuti the musicians learned a huge number of songs to a very high level. With the exception of Chris McDuff (on bass) the band was an entirely student group who, through dedication and many hours of practice, mastered this difficult repertoire.
Of course, no school production can succeed without the help and commitment of parents; driving to and from the many rehearsals, making lunches and dinners was greatly appreciated.
This was a truly special experience for everyone involved as well as for those who attended. The entirely student-led production, the first of its kind at Preshil, blew us all away and the opportunity that it represented was not lost on director Lucinda as she says, “I am very grateful to have had the honour of being a leader of this beautiful cast and crew. To have been able to give a student the chance to shine will be a gift that I will remember all my life.”
