Media & Film

Wrapping up
by Natalie Kunst, Media teacher
It's an exciting time of year for Media and Film students as they complete work on their practical production which will be showcased at PIFF (Preshil Independent Film Festival) at the Lido Cinemas in Hawthorn on Wednesday 30 October.
At Preshil, students have the option to study Media as part of the Middle Years Programme in Years 9 and 10 and Film as part of the Diploma Programme. At the DP level the course focuses on the study of cinema from different cultures and times, and students gain knowledge and skills in script writing, editing, cinematography, directing and sound. The course culminates with students preparing a nine-minute film reel which shows experimentation in three different film-making roles and a final seven-minute film in which they specialise in a role.
According to Year 11 IB Film student Mason Cremasco, "I really love the opportunity to develop ideas for our films, to shoot properly and work like real filmmakers do. I also like the freedom we have in terms of both the films we study and the direction our practical work takes."
