Room 1 - Year 6
In partnership with the Electoral Commission, the Year 6 leadership elections bought an exciting start to 2023 for Room 1 and the senior block team. After listening to some incredible and passionate speeches by the Year 6 nominees, students in Years 4 through 6 took part in a preferential vote to determine both faction captains and student councillors.
With elections and voting at the forefront of everyone’s mind, Room 1 has begun to explore the important values that underpin our democratic system. Within our Civics and Citizenship unit of work, we have been investigating the rights and responsibilities that citizens of both global and local democratic systems engage in. Through our Core Knowledge unit in English, we have travelled back in time to Ancient Greece and Rome to discover the origins of Australia’s democratic government and core values of human rights and liberty. We are looking forward to bringing a wealth of knowledge to Parliament House for our excursion in Week 7.

First Assembly For 2023
Congratulations to the White Gum Valley students who completed the
2022 Premier's Reading Challenge.
Congratulations to our Student Councilors and Faction Captains
Attendance Matters
We celebrate positive attendance in a number of ways; we have a class competition running every week where the winning class look after our signed Indigenous Dockers guernsey for the week and students with good attendance are entered into a fortnightly raffle. The raffle is drawn during our Morning meeting using a Wheel of Names app. The students love this part of the assembly with anticipation of the winning student causing a lot of excitement.
Our class competition winners have been;
Room 1 for week 2
Room 8 for week 3.
Our Individual competition winner was Sophie in Room 9.
We ask that parents inform us of the reason for any absences. If a reason isn’t provided, we send letters every 3 weeks reminding of the need for an explanation. If you receive one of these letters, please fill it in and return to your child’s teacher.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s attendance or lateness, please see your child’s teacher in the first instance or our Deputy, Sam Tingle. Commissioner
