Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on

Rostrum Public Speaking

The Australian Rostrum Voice of Youth Public Speaking Competition 2023 is commencing soon. This is a competition that allows those who love to be in front of an audience a chance to show off their skills.

Students have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and, if successful, have the opportunity to represent our School at the State Final or even the National Final in Melbourne.

All students from Year 7 - 12 are eligible to apply to participate. Parent/Guardian permission will be required to participate in this competition.

If you are interested or would like to know more information about this opportunity, please see Mrs Bird.

Shrove Tuesday

Yesterday our Young Vinnies got together to cook our students and staff delicious pancakes in celebration of Shrove Tuesday.

Shrove Tuesday is the day before the beginning of Lent. In most traditions, the day is known for the eating of pancakes as they are made out of the main foods available, sugar, fat, flour and eggs, whose consumption was traditionally restricted during the fasting period associated with Lent.

All the money raised yesterday will be donated to a worthy cause.

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

Last week our whole school attended an Ash Wednesday liturgy at St Michael and John's Church.

The Ash Wednesday liturgy includes the wearing of ashes on the head which symbolise the dust from which God made us. The ashes are made from blessed palm branches, taken from the previous year's Palm Sunday Mass.

Flourish Girls Workshop

On Friday 17th Feb, our Year 8 & 9 girls participated in a 'Flourish Girl' program.

Flourish Girl is Australia’s leading youth led rites of passage program that works with teenage girls & gender diverse students between 13-17 years old to build their self-awareness, self-confidence and social connectedness within their school community and other trusted relationships.

The girls had a fantastic day. They learnt a lot about themselves and their peers. The biggest message they left with was that everyone is going through something, so they need to be mindful of that and always be kind to each other.

Man Cave Workshop

On Friday 17th Feb, our Year 9 and 10 boys attended another 'Man Cave' session, continuing on from the workshop they attended last year.

Facilitators Lindsay and Rowey again led the day and engaged with the boys on a very high level, as they explored themselves and how they interact with each other, their families and the wider community. The central message being that it takes strength for young men to admit that they haven't always got it all worked out and that it is alright to reach out for some help. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day and have a great respect for Lindsay and Rowey. Most importantly, they got a lot out it, which made for a most successful day.

VCE Drama

Our VCE Drama students travelled to Melbourne last week to see a performance of 'Nosferatu' at the Malthouse Theatre.

"This trip aimed to help the VCE Drama students prepare for their first SAC (Area of Study 3, Outcome 3) by experiencing a professional performance to analyse the dramatic skills used by both the actors and the creative team. The show 'Nosferatu' helped us as we got to experience a play about environmental degradation, vampire capitalism and of course vampires. My favourite part of this excursion was the memories we made when experiencing different transformations between characters and seeing the theatre technology of having blood rain from the lights onto the stage."

Year 9 Outdoor Ed

This week, Miss Grace's Year 9 Outdoor Education students have been practicing setting up tents for their upcoming induction camp!
