Principal's Report

Mr Gerard Raven

Dear families,

Since our last newsletter there has been a much activity at the College. Last Tuesday we joined with Ss Michael and John’s Primary school for our swimming sports. There is a detailed report on the Age Champions further in this newsletter, however I would like make mention of the efforts of our Sports Ambassador, Jorja Clode. I had a number of parents approach me to indicate their gratitude for the way Jorja participated and assisted the primary school students in the pool. Jorja certainly demonstrated the values of the College by inspiring and assisting others to do their best on the day.

Unfortunately, not all of our students reflected the values of the school on this day by either not attending or using inappropriate language that was picked up by some of our spectators. I have met with the House Captains and we have considered ways that we as a College can learn from this event and do better. I have asked staff to target swearing for the remainder of the term so that we can acknowledge it is not acceptable to use offensive language when at school or in public. I ask for parents and carers to support this drive so our young people represent themselves and our College in a positive manner.

Also last week, the staff and students attended SMJ church for the Ash Wednesday liturgy and the Commissioning of our senior students. This was a wonderful celebration to mark the start of Lent and I would like to thank Monsignor Murphy and Sr Jacinta Rice for their time and assistance. To support our Catholic Tradition, the College’s tuckshop will not be serving red meat products, such as pies and ham sandwiches every Friday in the lead up to Easter. This is a small gesture we can do to demonstrate our need to be reflective of our lives and grateful for living in a developed country where food is abundant.

Keep safe
