Lent begins at Lakeside
During the last few weeks, the Christian season of “Lent” has begun. This is the period of about 40 days leading up to Easter, when Christians prepare to remember the death of Jesus for us on Good Friday, and to celebrate his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
As we do each year, Lakeside College marked the start of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service. It was wonderful to be able to do this in person for the first time in three years. Our Student Leaders, from both the Primary and Secondary schools, did a wonderful job leading us in various aspects of this service, including distributing Ashes to those who wanted them. Ashes have long been a symbol of repentance - saying sorry to God - and are used to mark the start of this season of Lent.
As part of preparations for Easter, homerooms throughout the school have been using a “Lenten Cross”. Twice per week, there is a story to read from the life of Jesus, and an illustration or image from this story is added to the cross.
This is a way for us to learn about and reflect upon the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, as we prepare to celebrate this in the school holidays at Easter time.
God’s blessings to you and your family.
