Supporting students wellbeing - Lunchtime sports and Wellbeing Wednesdays
Sport and physical activity can have a significant positive impact on young people’s wellbeing by giving them the opportunity to build social connection whilst reaping the physical and mental health benefits of exercising.
As of next week, students will be able to access the St Louis Sports Centre at lunchtime. Providing additional space for students to enjoy sport activities at this time will hopefully see an increase in students’ physical activity throughout the day. Student access will be on the following rotation:
Mondays | Year 7 students |
Tuesdays | Year 8 students |
Wednesdays | Years 11 & 12 students |
Thursdays | Year 10 students |
Fridays | Year 9 students |
Students are also encouraged to participate in House Sport during lunch to build House spirit, team building and comradery. This term, Years 10 to 12 students are competing against each other in netball on the following days:
Mondays | Year 10 students |
Tuesdays | Year 11 students |
Wednesdays | Year 12 students |
To evolve our approach in supporting student wellbeing, commencing next Wednesday 1 March, Secondary students are welcome to wear their sport uniform and House shirt to school each Wednesday. This will be a continuation of a successful initiative introduced last year to facilitate student engagement in a wider variety of activities to support their wellbeing. Students participating in NAS Sport after school will be required to change into their College polo shirt for their fixture.
We are always looking at ways to support and improve student wellbeing and welcome suggestions from students, staff and parents.

Compassion into action
Year 12 Student Leaders helped to distribute pikelets in the Pavilion for Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is the last day before Lent, and traditionally a time for Christians to use up their indulgent food items before fasting begins in the Lenten period.
Our Year 10 Student leaders attended the online launch of Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion on Shrove Tuesday. This year's theme for Project Compassion reminds us that what we do today can have an impact 'for all future generations'. This message invites us to step up for those who do not have the essential resources they need for their survival and those whose needs currently are far beyond ours. By putting compassion into action, we can make a difference today, For All Future Generations. We will be supporting Caritas Australia with funds raised for Live Simply Day later in March.
Lent is a time when the Catholic Church collectively enters preparation for the celebration of Easter. It is a season of conversion. Conversion is the process of turning away from sin and turning to God. Our students participated in an Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday morning.
Lent is a time when participants can carry out a three-fold mission, with the key pillars being fasting, almsgiving, and prayer. It lasts for 40 days.
In 2017, Pope Francis provided us with some alternate ways to fast:
Fast from hurtful words and speak kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and have trust in God.
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.
