Year 12 Residential

Vermont Secondary College

On Monday the 30th of January, the Class of 2023 ventured into the city at RMIT for the Year 12 Study Conference.

It was a long but worthwhile day where students heard from a number of guest speakers and staff on topics such as exam preparation, wellbeing and the importance of sleep. Students also heard from past students with ATARs ranging from the 60’s to the 99’s. They shared their experiences, struggles and triumphs and we hope each student was able to connect with at least one of the speakers.

Finally, the day was concluded with Scott Harris, who shared his story about his acquired brain injury and the subsequent path to where he is now. His message of perseverance and resilience kept the students engaged and we hope that the Class of 2023 will use his story as a source of inspiration for the trials of Year 12.

As noted by Stirling House Captain Freya Sutanto on Wednesday’s Year 12 Assembly “We were so lucky to have started off the year with a great seminar this Monday”. This was reflected by the overall positive feedback that students gave with one student noting that they received “realistic advice, based on people who have done it recently”. We also appreciated the constructive feedback so that we can improve the experience for the Class of 2024. Your comments continue to help us make the programs run at Vermont Secondary College the best it can be.

We encourage all students to reflect on and implement some of the learnings from the seminar into their study routine as well as their everyday life. We hope that students share their learnings with their families and guardians so that they can support them in this regard as well.
