NAPLAN 2023

This year, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing period will be held during Term 1.

It will run over two weeks from Tuesday 14th March until Monday 27th March. 

This is to allow Year 7 & Year 9 students to complete the tests online. All students in Year 7 & 9 will be given the opportunity to complete a practice test to familiarise themselves with the format. This practice will be held during Period 2 on Tuesday 21st February for Year 7 students and Period 3 on Wednesday 22nd February for Year 9 students. 

NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.

The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals which can be used to develop programs to support students.

On Wednesday 8th March all Year 7 & 9 students were issued with the NAPLAN timetable and an information sheet for parents.

All Year 7 and Year 9 students will be completing the tests on their Laptops. Students will only complete one test on any day and there will be limited opportunities for students to catch up if they miss a test.

Students in Year 7 and Year 9 should have the lock down browsers installed on their laptops and ensure that their laptops are fully charged each day (Year 9 students will need to remove the old lock down browsers if it is currently installed on their computer and install the 2023 browser). 

In most cases the installation of the lockdown browser will occur at school. 

All students in Year 7 & 9 are expected to provide their own headphones (These MUST be old style, plug in headphones, blue tooth headphones are not permitted).

All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests and support can be arranged for students with disabilities, if the student regularly uses similar support for classroom assessment tasks.

Exemptions may be granted to students with significant intellectual disabilities and to students who have been learning English for less than one year.

If your child is eligible for support due to disability or an exemption, you should discuss this with the Inclusion Support Team prior to the tests. Parental consent is required before any support due to disability or exemption is granted.

Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the college. 

If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a 'Student Withdrawal' form. These forms are available at the school.

Later in the year you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report. 

The report will describe your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia.
