VCE VM Sport & Recreation

During term one, VCE VM students have been participating in a range of passive sports and recreational activities within the local community as part of the curriculum.

During week three the class went for a lawn bowls experience at the Morwell Bowling Club. It was also part of community connection, meeting and listening to older generations of the community.

During week five the students went to the Morwell Archery Range. A sport many of the students have not tried before and said it was really good fun.

This week the students went to Wyncity Bowling Alley to participate in 10-pin bowling and laser tag. They learned about the associated technical skills of bowling and the social skills associated with participating in recreational sports within the public domain.

YR 11 VCE Biology - Tech School Excursion

On Wednesday 1st of March, the Year 11 Biology classes attended a laboratory workshop offered by the Gippsland Tech School.

In the lab, students built on their understanding of genetic inheritance from class by using gel electrophoresis to profile the DNA of different family members suspected of carrying the gene for sickle cell anaemia. Through this process, students were able to identify the mode of inheritance for sickle cell anaemia and determine who in the family were carriers and who was affected.

VCE Theatre Studies Excursion

As part of their VCE Theatre Studies, students engage with professional performances.

The students recently travelled to Melbourne to watch Harry Potter & The Cursed Child theatre performance at the Princess Theatre, Melbourne. The play incorporated sophisticated theatre technologies and stagecraft including set, lighting, costume, and make-up, and referenced the theatre styles of magic realism and drama. Students had a great time exploring Melbourne, viewing an award-winning international production, and then meeting the cast and crew.

Gormandale & District P.S. Athletics Day

The VET Cert III Sport and Recreation class has been busy planning and preparing an athletics day event for Gormandale & District Primary School this term. The planning involved working together to gain experience and insight into the behind-the-scenes organisation that takes place for such an event.  From advertising, risk assessments, organising ribbons and prizes, planning events, preparing budgets, organising a lunch menu, amongst other things, the students did it all.

On Wednesday 8th of March, on a blustery cold Autumn Day, the students went out to Gormandale and facilitated the event.  They did an incredible job teaching the primary school students to participate in the athletic events, which was the first time for quite a few.  The primary school students had an absolute ball and participation was at an all-time high.  The feedback from the primary school students was that it was “really fun” and the staff at Gormandale primary school could not have been happier with how the day went (they wished it had run longer).  It was a great day had by all and the VET class did a remarkable job, well done!!
