Notifying the School of Absences

Every day missed can affect a child's educational outcomes. Attendance at Our Lady's includes being on time. Every minute missed is a minute that we cannot get back and as educators we are always striving to make maximum impact.

This year we are aiming for improved attendance throughout the school to ensure all of our students can reach their full potential.

Parent/carer’s responsibility

Parents/carers are required to ensure their child attends school every day and have an obligation to contact the school to notify the school of their child’s absence.

Parents/carers should inform the school in advance of known upcoming absences, or on the day of absence as soon as practicable. In addition, in order to implement this requirement, it is essential that parent/carers provide schools with their most up-to-date contact details.

What is the school’s responsibility?

Notify parents/carers: The school must notify parents and carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained absence.

Follow-up (where required):  At times the parent or carer may not be able to be reached. In this instance, we will make contact with any emergency contact/s nominated on the child’s file held by the school to ensure the safety of all children in our community.

If we are unable to contact you, the absence will be recorded as unexplained. We will then write a letter asking for an explanation for your child's absence.
