LOTE Mandarin

LOTE Mandarin
Learning for LOTE Mandarin will be timetabled every Wednesday for 25 minutes across Grades 5 and 6.
Grade 5
Welcome back to Term 2, Grade 5!
This week we are going to set up our Google Classrooms, and do some revision on numbers.
Please join your Google Classrooms using the following class codes:
5A: plsx4gh | 5B: jvourna |
5C: fiqnfr3 | 5D: fovkikc |
Task 1: Watch Zhū Lǎo Shī's Welcome Back video
What have you been up to during the holidays?
Please add a comment to the announcement on your Google Classroom and say hi to your classmates!
Task 2: Revision of numbers 1-10
Repeat after me!
Task 3: Revision of numbers 11-99
With numbers 1 to 10 under our belt, let's revise the Chinese number system.
The Chinese number system follows particular rules.
11 = 10 + 1 shí yī | 13 = 10 + 3 shí sān | 15 = 10 + 5 shí sān |
30 = 3 x 10 sān shí | 60 = 6 x 10 liù shí | 80 = 8 x 10 bā shí |
42 = 4 x 10 + 2 sì shí èr | 55 = 5 x 10 + 5 wǔ shí wǔ | 99 = 9 x 10 + 9 jiǔ shí jiǔ |
Do you notice a trend?
Now it's your turn! In your Specialist book or a piece of paper, write down the 'equations' for each of these numbers and say them out loud in Mandarin. (If you forget a particular number, watch the video in above again.)
17 = ? | 40 = ? | 34 = ? | 41 = ? |
58 = ? | 62 = ? | 70 = ? | 95 = ? |
*You do not have to post your work onto Google Classroom. We will check the answers together next week!
Bonus task: Use your inquiry skills to find out what 100 is in Mandarin!
Grade 6
Welcome back, Grade 6! Hope you had a lovely break.
This week we are going to set up our Google Classrooms, and do some revision on self-introduction and vocabularies that we learnt last term.
Please join your Google Classrooms using the following class codes:

6C: s3bgi7i | 6D: lx6fn4g |
Task 1: Watch Zhū Lǎo Shī's Welcome Back video
What have you been up to during the holidays?
Please add a comment to the thread on your Google Classroom and say hi to your classmates!
Task 2: Watch the video and practice saying and gesturing vocabularies with me
If this is your second year learning Mandarin, you should know all these vocabularies (and more!).
Repeat after me and do the gestures with me!
Task 3: Tell me something about yourself in Mandarin!
You can just use vocabularies you know, or try to build sentences with the words you know.
Say and/or gesture the words! You may want to include the following:
- Greeting - hello
- Introduction of your name
- Age
- Grade
- Who is in your family?
- What food do you like or dislike?
- What colour do you like or dislike?
- Do you like or dislike dancing and singing?
Be creative!
If you need help with some words, watch the video above again. Or use your inquiry skills to find out the Mandarin of new words!
Post a video onto Google Classroom to share with me and your classmates when you're done.
Bonus Task: Tell your siblings or adults at home something about yourself in Mandarin!
Make sure you use your gestures so that they can understand you!
