Prep

I hope you had a lovely break, welcome back to art lessons.

Task:

We are going to start a new unit developing our fine motor skills. This week you are going to tear and paste. Your task is to make a newspaper collage of an animal.  Choose a coloured piece of paper as a background. Tear shapes to make your animal. Add details to your animal with a black marker. See the photo below as an example.

Parent tip: please ask for feedback on what was a challenge with the task (what they found a little hard), and what they like about their finished artwork.

Grade 1

Welcome back to Art lessons. We hope you had a lovely break.

Task:

Your task this week is to create a Henri Matisse inspired artwork using collage. Let your imagination run wild, be as creative as you like with your shapes and composition.

Follow the instructions in the video to create your own artwork.

Parent tip: please ask for feedback on what was a challenge with the task (what they found a little hard), and what they like about their finished artwork.

Grade 2

I hope you had a lovely break, welcome back to art lessons.

Get creative with Easter inspired artworks… choose from one or two tasks you could create using materials you have at home. Use textas, coloured pencil to create your very own Easter artwork!

Follow the instructions in the video to create your own artwork. If you don't have an of the materials they suggest, feel free to use something else, for example, goggle eyes, you could draw them on instead.

Parent tip: this task comes from a unit about celebrations. Please ask your child why they think celebrations are important.

Grade 3

I hope you had a lovely break, welcome back to art lessons.

Task:

We are going to continue with our learning around the elements of art. This week you are going to explore and experiment with LINE. On a piece of paper, explore as many different lines as you can:

Zigzag

Curvy

Broken

Straight

Short

Long

What else can you think of?

Extension task:

If you finish the task above and still have time and want to extend yourself; take a piece of fruit from your fruit bowl (or if you don’t have one, an object you’d like to draw will do), draw this object using only lines. Start with the outline and then draw the contours to give shape to your object. See the example below.

Parent tip: line is one of the elements of art, which your child has been learning about. Ask your child to try and remember some of the other elements of art we have focused on. Ask them to point out an example of this element of art in your home.

Grade 4

I hope you had a lovely break, welcome back to art lessons.

Task:

You are going to create your own comic strip! You will need to create a grid on your paper like the example below. Watch the video that will explain how to plan, create and review your comic strip. Use markers or coloured pencils to add colour that compliments the message in your comic.

Parent tip: Ask your child to share their work with you once they have finished. Ask them; what is successful with their comic? What was a challenge with the task?

Grade 5

I hope you had a lovely break. Welcome back to Art lessons.

Task:

Your task is to great your own zine! A zine, (short for magazine or fanzine) is a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier. Zines are the product of either a single person or of a very small group, and are popularly photocopied into physical prints for circulation.

Follow the instructions in the video to create your own little book. The topic is your choice, but think about something that is personal and relevant to you.

Parent tip: Ask your child to share their work with you once they have finished. Ask them; what is successful with their zine? What was a challenge with the task?

Grade 6

I hope you had a lovely break. Welcome back to Art lessons.

Zines are the product of either a single person or of a very small group, and are popularly photocopied into physical prints for circulation.

Follow the instructions in the video to create your own little book. The topic is light and shade. Think about what we learnt in Art last term;

different pencil weights

creating shadows and light sources

different drawing techniques (i.e. hatching and cross hatching)

Create your zine to show what you know about light and shade.

Teacher example (in case your stuck):

Parent tip: Ask your child to share their work with you once they have finished. Ask them; what is successful with their zine? What was a challenge with the task? Did they show everything they know about light and shade in their work? What else do they know?
