Interschool Debating

On Monday the 26th of April, the second round of Interschool debating for the Debating Association of Victoria (DAV) was held at St Bernard’s College in Essendon against Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School.

Our C Grade team, comprised of Tasman Broadway, Nella Simpson, Melanie Sebire, and Zoe Grammatikos, were extremely prepared for their debate. Unfortunately, their opponents forfeited on the day of the competition. Our B Grade team had to forfeit their debate due to conflicts. Our D Grade team, which consists of Shaun Donnely, Alexis Campos Sanchex, Khinezar Ye Lwin, and Sameeya Chaudry, argued the negative side for the topic “That we should ban animal testing”.

It was an incredibly close debate, our team put forward a strong argument and presented their case clearly, engaging the audience and firmly rebutting the affirmative team’s case. Shaun assertively established the negative case, outlining the issues facing the banning of animal testing. He was very well supported by Alexis and Khinezar who further developed the case and made a great contribution to the rebuttal of the affirmative's case.

Unfortunately we lost the debate by 5 points, but the night was a terrific achievement for all involved. Well done to everyone involved in the debate.

The following dates are the rest of our DAV interschool debating competitions for any interested parents and guardians:
