State Swimming
The following students represented St. Joseph's College at the State Swimming on Thursday 22 March in Melbourne:
Amelia O’Grady, Brandan Batey, Nash Ramage, Hugh Byrne, Will Rohde, Will Polidano, Coby Morgan, Ruby Morley and Addison Ireland.
The state finals are a great experience for all students, and they should be very proud of their achievements to get to this level after three swim meets.
With lots of smiles and some nerves the students swam beautifully and really did St. Joseph's proud! Many of them, although they didn’t get a podium finish, pushed themselves against the competition and swam personal best times. This is a win in itself!
A special mention to the 16 Boys Freestyle team (Nash, Hugh, Will and Will) who come third in the state! The boys were super excited (as were all student and mums cheering them on!). They even appeared on the SSV live TV after the win with an interview.
School Cross Country
Our school cross country was run around Jack Eddy oval and the surrounds on Tuesday 27th April.
This year’s Cross Country was different in the fact that all students were bussed to Jack Eddy as a whole school community, which was our first sports gathering since 2019. It was fantastic to see all everyone together enjoying the sunshine and the free sausages!
A super effort to the below students who won their age level race:
13 Girls – Ruby Morley 13 Boys – Darcy Cullen
14 Girls – Scarlett Southern 14 Boys – Ky Henson
15 Girls – Stella White 15 Boys – Sam Chapman
16 Girls – Sienna Johnstone 16 Boys – Chhay Williams
17 Girls – Majella McLeod 17 Boys – Ethan Church
21 Girls – Shaylee Anderson 21 Boys – Brady Simpson.
The overall score for House Champion was extremely close, with Chisholm coming up with the win!
1st – Chisholm 221 pts
2nd – Patrick 197 pts
3rd – Brigid 196 pts
4th – Moore 187 pts
5th – Nicholls 183 pts
6th – Delany 173 pts.
Campaspe Cross Country
On Tuesday 4th March students ran in the Campaspe Cross Country after qualifying from our school Cross Country. The course this year was around Echuca College, due to the bridge project around Scenic Drive.
Congratulations to the following students who won Age Champions:
14 Girls – Scarlett Southern
20 Girls – Shaylee Anderson
13 Boys – Darcy Cullen.
27 students have now qualified for the LMR Cross Country in June at St. Arnaud and we wish our students all the very best at this event.
For the third consecutive year, we also won the shield for the best performing school.
Well done everyone!
LMR Tennis
A big shout out to the following tennis teams who, after an amazing day in Mildura, all won on the day and now head to the State Finals in Melbourne!
Year 7 Boys : Nicholas Mitchell, James Brentnall, Dhara Canham, Will Brennan and Jett Kervin.
Year 7 Girls : Georgia Mahoney, Lila Mahoney, Madeline Williams and Rose Byrne.
Inter Girls : Amy Parker, Mia Aston, Ruby Brentnall, Phillipa Bush.
It’s been a very long time since we have had tennis teams get to the State level and we are very excited for these teams to represent St. Joes at this level.
A big thank you to Mrs Gotch and Mrs Bush for coaching.
The Inter Girls play at state level on Friday 21 May and the Year 7’s don’t play until November (plenty of time for them to practice!).
Best of luck to all teams!
