Senior School Report

Welcome to Term 2

The Senior School team welcomes students and parents / carers to Term 2. It has been great to see our students return to school with the focus on personal growth in their studies.

It is so important for students to talk to their

co-ordinator and teachers if they are experiencing any difficulties or to give any information that is necessary to help support the student to maximise their educational and / or wellbeing outcomes. Parents / carers are also welcome to contact the Senior School team for us to help support students to achieve their best.

Year 10 Co-ordinator: Mr Tom Santos

Year 11 Co-ordinator: Mr Jake Barnett

Year 12 Co-ordinator: Ms Vicki Manioudakis

Students must complete the set work and submit assessments by the due dates. A good homework and home study routine supports these objectives. Though parents and carers may not have the specialised subject knowledge, parents and carers can play an extremely important part in supporting their child with their homework and home study by:

  • Ensuring that their child maintains a home study routine that ensures that all of their subjects are kept up to date.
  • Setting expectations of the highest level of effort and commitment to their studies.
  • Ensuring that their child has a comfortable study area that is free from distractions and can be monitored.
  • Ensuring phones and other digital devices are only used for learning activities and aren’t available as a distraction at other times.
  • Ensuring their child maintains physical exercise and connections to family and friends.
  • Being ready to provide the reassurance and support we all need from time to time.

The College’s suggested minimum time for homework is 10 hours per week for Year 10 students, 15 hours per week for Year 11 students and 20 hours per week for Year 12 students.

Free Parent Webinars

Scoresby Secondary College has had a long association with Elevate Education who have delivered workshops for our students and parents over the years on study skills, motivation, wellbeing, and exam preparation.

Due to the college’s association with Elevate Education, they are offering our parents the opportunity to participate in their free 2021 Elevate Parent Webinar Series. These webinars are designed to help parents / carers to better support their children at home through reinforcing the skills they learn at school. The webinars are conducted live online from 7pm – 8pm where the presenter will share Elevate’s research findings and skills, and will conduct a live Q&A so you can ask them questions directly.

The webinars take place fortnightly across the term, beginning on Wednesday 5 May at 7pm. Registration is essential and is free for parents of Scoresby Secondary College. You can register at: https://get.elevatecoaching.info/au/register

Their upcoming webinars are:

  • May 5 - Time Management techniques to align the family expectations on homework and achieve school-life balance.
  • May 19 - Memory and effective revision. Why rote learning is ineffective and the top strategies for effective revision.
  • June 2 - Exam Preparation to ensure students are prepared and confident going into the exam room.
  • June 16 - Stress and Wellbeing.  How parents can support their child in tougher periods and manage school-related stress.

College Open Day and Night- Senior School

Mr Stirling (Head of School) and Ms Manioudakis (Year 12 Coordinator) had the honour of representing the Senior School at the college’s Open Day and Night on Wednesday 28 April.

The Year 12 Study Hub was transformed into an information and display area that enabled us to showcase and highlight the many achievements of our Year 10, VCE and VCAL students. Feedback from prospective students and parents / carers was extremely positive on our college’s high expectations, student achievements and results.
