From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends

Visit from Paul Edbrooke MP and Peta Murphy MP – Wellbeing Inclusion Space

On Thursday 29 April we welcomed Paul Edbrooke MP and Peta Murphy MP to our school for a tour and to explore the plans for our new Wellbeing Space.  It was fantastic to host our guests and have them meet a number of staff and students.  These works are possible thanks to an Inclusive Schools Grant from DET (Department of Education and Training) which will result in a space that students and staff can use in further improving outcomes for young people.

School Tours

We have concluded a large number of school tours with prospective families over the past couple of weeks.  These have been extremely well attended and there continues to be enormous interest in our wonderful learning community. Thank you to our Junior Sub School team: Mr Darin Joyce and Mrs Sharee Dew for their efforts in organising these tours, along with the Information Session on Thursday evening. Thank you to the large number of staff involved in making these a success by running a tour group or organising resources and making our visitors so welcome at Frankston High School.

ANZAC Day Assembly

We recognised ANZAC Day as a school community on Monday 26 April, an important occasion to remember all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.  This year our assembly was an online video presentation made by students and staff. The majority of the video presentation was made by the Year 9 LEAD class and included some moving speeches along with some fantastic musical performances.  Thank you to Mrs Sarah Bahramis for organising the assembly, supported by Ms Peta Laughlin, Mr Jack Parker, Mr John Russell, and Ms Emily Papadimitriou.

Interact Team

The 2021 Frankston High School Interact Team is a new initiative that is dedicated to making our school, our local community and our world a better place.  Whilst the team is only new this year they have already run a very successful donation drive to help support people who are homeless, bringing value to the wider Frankston community.

On Thursday 29 April we held an official ceremony to recognise the chartering of our Interact Club at Frankston High School.  It was fantastic to welcome a number of guests from District Rotary, Frankston Sunrise Rotary and Peninsula Rotaract.  Well done to our dynamic students on getting this team up and running. Their work would not be possible without the support and efforts of Mr Jon Christie and Ms Catherine Kyriakos

Music Jazz Competition

On Sunday 2 May our Senior Stage Band participated in a State Jazz Competition held at St Leonard’s College in Brighton.  It was a great opportunity for our students to perform, receive feedback from judges on their performance, and listen to other bands.  Thank you to Mr Ben Braithwaite and Mr Peter Sharp in organising this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Outdoor Education Camps

Over recent weeks our Outdoor Education team ran their Middle School Outdoor Education Camps in the Melwood area and a Year 11 Camp in the Grampians.  Thank you to all of the Outdoor Education and other staff who attended and provided a great experience for our Years 9, 10 and 11 students.  These are fantastic learning opportunities for our young people which reinforces their learning in the classroom.

Breakfast Club

Our Breakfast Club is up and running in 2021 and is proving to be popular with our students.  Thank you to Ms Lilly Wells and our Student Wellbeing Team, along with other staff, for their efforts in helping to ensure our students start the day on a positive note.

Student recognition

Congratulations to Elli Symonds of Year 9 on her achievement in being recognised with an award from School Sport Victoria for her outstanding achievements in Athletics. These awards are very prestigious with only one award being given in each category. Thank you to Mrs Chloe Stevens who attended the ceremony at the MCG on Friday and for all of her support of Elli.

Tavishek (Tavi) Sharma from the Class of 2020 had his work displayed at the launch of Top Designs at Melbourne Museum on Friday 16 April. Thank you to Ms Annie Griffin who attended in celebration of the exceptional work she enabled Tavi to produce.

Lachlan Hayes also from the Class of 2020 has been invited to share his fantastic performance from Top Class Dance at Top Acts 2021. The Top Acts concert features a representative sample of performers from Top Class Drama, Theatre Studies, Dance, Sound and Music, as well as a few highlights from Top Screen and Top Arts.
