Carmel Stutterd

This week has been another busy and exciting week at St Louis. We commenced the week with our cross country run for our Year Three to Year Six students. We have some great runners in our community and more importantly it was fabulous to see the resilience and perseverance that many of our students displayed. Thank you to John and the parents who helped with the cross country

St Louis Feast Day

On Tuesday we celebrated the feast day of our patron saint 'St Louis de Montfort'.  A huge thank you to Father Andrew and Marylene Douglas for the organisation and celebration of our feast day Mass. It was beautiful to be able to share in this liturgy as a community.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program (NAPLAN) - Literacy and Numeracy is coming closer. All of our Year 3 and Year 5 students  will be sitting the tests during the week commencing Monday 10 May. The various tests will take place on the following days.

  • Tuesday 11 May - Language Conventions and Writing
  • Wednesday 12 May - Reading
  • Thursday 13 May - Numeracy

Each level is currently working with their students to provide them with the appropriate strategies to enable them to perform to the best of their ability. It would be great if all students understood that there are no expectations on them and that these tests are only one aspect of our school's assessment and reporting process.

Let's work together to alleviate any anxiety in our young people.

Excursions

It is so exciting that we are able to take our students on Excursions again. Our Prep and Year One students are out and about in the next couple of weeks.

Preps are off to see a production of the Very Hungry Caterpillar on Wednesday 5 May. They will also be visiting some local parks in the area This is in support of their Geography Inquiry unit and their author study of Eric Carle.

Year Ones are going on a journey into the city on Tuesday 18 May. They are visiting various landmarks within the Melbourne area which will also complement this term's inquiry unit called 'Why Melbourne?'

Stay tuned for their updates on their journeys when they return!

School closure days 10 & 11 June

Please mark in your calendar that the school will be closed on the 10 and 11 May. Our staff will be involved in Professional Learning related to the Intervention Framework Modules. We will also engage in a social justice exercise. We will share more information after the event.

Working bee

Our working bee will take place on Saturday 8 May from 8 am-12 pm.  This is a scheduled time to carry out maintenance of our playgrounds. This is an ever evolving process that we really require assistance with. Thank you to those people who have already volunteered. We recognise that we are often busy on the weekend and we appreciate any length of time you are able to provide. A sausage sizzle will be provided at the end of the working bee. You are most welcome to bring your children along.

Winter uniform

We ask that all students are in full winter uniform from Monday 3 May. We recognise that this will be difficult for some as we have a backlog of orders in the uniform shop. Lisa Goodes is endeavouring to source supplies quickly. It seems that the shortfall is the result of the winter uniform not being worn in 2020 during lock down. 0

Mother's Day Stall and Breakfast

Our Mother's Day stall will take place on Wednesday for our students in Prep to Year 6. Gifts range from $2-$6 and there is a limit of two gifts per child. A huge thank you to the PFA for organising this shopping experience.

The Mother's Day breakfast is on Friday Morning. We look forward to celebrating this event with you.
