DAREBIN DIVISION SWIMMING CARNIVAL

The House Swimming Carnival was held on Friday February 26 at Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool. For the first time, the whole of Year 9 was involved in the event. This meant that all of Year 7-9 students were in attendance, in addition to the senior swimmers who were competing.

The Darebin Division Swimming Carnival was held on Thursday March 11 at the Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre.

Thornbury High School had 16 swimmers competing in a mix of individual and relay events. All our swimmers performed exceptionally well and represented the school with distinction.

Congratulations to Alicia Ross Smith (Year 11), Nathan Mu (Year 10), Amelia Hooper (Year 9) and Amelia Speairs (Year 7) who all won individual races and qualified for the North Metro Region Swimming Carnival.

The girls team represented by Mahi Khore, Desi Georgiou, Amelia Marsi and Evie Mameghan performed strongly in all their doubles and singles matches.

The boys team consisted of Damian Morales, Patrick Bubbers, Thomas Georgiou and Samuel Davey. The results were close all day with Thornbury winning in an exciting finish.

Both teams have now qualified for the North Metro Region finals early in Term 2.

Good luck to both teams!

STAFF v STUDENTS BASKETBALL GAME

An enthusiastic crowd watched on as the staff and students teams showcased their basketball skills in a Staff v Students game in the school gym.

The staff team held a slender lead at the half time break, with the students team producing a strong 2nd half to win by 4 points in a close finish!

Well done to everyone involved with the game for making it a great way to finish the term.
