BHS Convention

To the wider Ballarat High School Community,

Hi! You may not know me, but I’m Em, a year 12 student at this school and a member of the senior book club. I personally have been affected by mental health issues throughout my life, and this year I decided to find some way of giving back.  Rather than just pull together a regular, everyday fundraiser like a sausage sizzle or bake sale, I decided to branch out. With the help of our lovely librarian Jac – along with the rest of senior book club and a whole host of awesome students and staff members – I submitted a proposal to host our very own Ballarat High School Convention! We are so grateful to Mr Palmer for giving us the green light to get our plans underway!

We plan to run a variety of activities throughout the day on the 25th June, including - but not limited to - a Japanese film festival, a panel of Australian female comic authors speaking about their experiences in those fields, manga art demonstration/activity, and a cosplay competition! All profits from the day are going to be donated to Lifeline, so we as a community can give back as a way of saying thank you for the wonderful work their organisation does.

If you would like to make your own donations, our fundraising page can be found at https://fundraise.lifeline.org.au/fundraisers/jacwheadon/ballarat-high-school-lifeline-convention

Thank you to everyone who has helped us to pull this convention together. I can’t wait to, as Jac would say, “get my nerd on” for a good cause.
