Power Saving Bonus

The state government’s Power Saving Bonus grant scheme has been open for much of this year, but will close on January 31, 2022.

To be eligible for the payment, you must be a Victorian residential energy costumer and receive one of the following concession benefits:

  • Centrelink Pension Concession Card
  • JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Abstudy or Austudy
  • Department of Veterans Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card

The bonus may only be claimed once per household.

Applications can be made at www.compare.energy.vic.gov.au. You will need an emailed copy of your bill from your provider or the National Metering Identifier (NMI) as stated on your electricity bill.

Once you complete your application online you will receive an immediate confirmation email. When your application has been approved you will receive an email from info.vec@delwp.vic.gov.au to ask for your bank details. This is the official government email – do not give bank details via any other email address or SMS.

Your payment will be paid via Electronic Funds Transfer into your designated bank account within two to four weeks of submission, or you can elect to have a cheque mailed to you.

Neighbourhood Houses in the region are providing an outreach service to assist people with their applications. More information and contact details are available here: https://www.nhvic.org.au/power-saving-bonus-outreach-program

The Brotherhood of St Laurence also has an Energy Assistance Program to help people with applications, which is available by calling 1800 830 029.
