School Council

Council Contemplations

Hi everyone.  Your School Council has continued to meet throughout the year and we have been delighted with the improvements that have been happening around the school and great to see the kids back.

School Council  (as your nominated representatives) is responsible for assisting in the governance of the school, ensuring that the decisions made consider the best interests of the students and enhancing educational opportunities for the students.  Practically this means that we approve budgets, determine the uniform policy, oversee the OSHC program (and there will be some exciting news about that soon) among other responsibilities.

One of the most important roles of the School Council is to appoint the Principal.

The current substantive principal of Somerville Primary School, Sue Morgan (Goodall) has submitted her resignation effective as of the end of January 2022.  The school is now in a position to advertise the Principal position (5 year contract) and the process will take place during Term 1, 2022 with the appointment to start in Term 2, 2022.

The selection panel will include the School Council President, an additional parent from council, and an elected staff member.  The entire Council undertook training at the meeting last night and we look forward to this new chapter of the school.

Should you have any questions you can contact me via email Erica.Brady@education.vic.gov.au

Please be aware that there are strict confidentiality rules governing the process and we will not be in a position to discuss details of applications or decisions outside of school council.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue for all that she did for the school during her time as Principal and wish her all the best on her new adventures.
