Indigenous Garden Update

After many months in the making, the Indigenous garden/art installation is now being installed... and it's looking incredible!

Heathmont College received a grant for The Creative Workers in Schools program delivered by Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) through the support of the Victorian Government’s Working for Victoria initiative, and in partnership with the Department of Education and Training and Creative Victoria. As a part of this program, Heathmont College welcomed Indigenous artist Simone Thomson to the college on a part time basis across Terms 2 and 3.

Simone is a Melbourne based Aboriginal artist and descendant of Victoria’s Wurundjeri and Yorta-Yorta tribes. Across her time at the College, Simone worked with Ms. Constance to implement a cross curricular project with students to design the Indigenous garden. Simone also visited classrooms to deepen students understanding of Indigenous culture and our connectedness to country. Through her art and storytelling, students learnt of Simone’s ancestors sacred dreaming stories, history, and knowledge.
