TERM 4 IMPACT

Term 4 in Year 9 IMPACT has been a busy one. From drama classes to drumming circles to learning Hip Hop and Bollywood, we have been experiencing many different areas of the Performing Arts and our students have been excelling. The beginning of the term Mike taught us about renowned artist Vincent Van Gough. We studied Van Gough's art pieces The Portrait and Starry Night, looking at his painting styles and the stories behind these works. Students then had the opportunity to create their own piece, using Van Gough's work as a starting point, and using their own style, produced some amazing portraits.

The LUME Gallery Visit

To complete this unit of work we were lucky to visit the new digital art gallery at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre called The LUME. The LUME is a fully immersive experience, where the walls and floor came alive with light and colour and the special choreographed soundtrack, which made the artwork become alive and made it a truly unique experience. The current LUME exhibition celebrates the life of Vincent Van Gough and we were fully immersed in his life and artwork through this exhibition. It was a great finish to our unit of work Mike McLean had been doing with the students.

PERFORMING ARTS

This term in Performing Arts, our students have been working with local theatre star Georgia Nicholls, which has been very special for the Wexford and Tallis students. They have been developing their drama skills through a range of activities and games, with their latest being "Creating a TV or Radio Commercial".

Students worked together to create a script advertising a real or invented product, and then rehearsed and recorded their performance.

As you can see students have had a lot of fun working through this creative process. These recordings are from the Year 6-8 students at Tallis and Wexford.

IMPACT Puppetry

Our first year of IMPACT has been amazing and the work students have produced has been outstanding. During the year, we had an Artist in Residence working with us, where students created puppets and a puppet show, in preparation to perform in front of the junior campuses. Sadly, this did not eventuate, but a virtual show was created.

TERM 4 SEED

As restrictions have eased and we’ve been able to head off campus for the past few weeks, SEED students have once again enjoyed the opportunity to receive specialist coaching at some of the great facilities available in the local region. Year 9 & 10 students have participated in their normal volleyball, football, cricket, soccer and basketball programs while Year 7 & 8 students have been able to participate in a wide range of activities.

Some of the venues and activities the Year 7 & 8’s have participated in include: Golf at Geelong Golf Course and X-Golf, Basketball, Badminton and Volleyball at the Corio Leisure Centre, Fitness at the Ultimate You Change Centre, Tennis at the Geelong Lawn Tennis Club, Lawn Bowls at the Geelong Bowls Club or Norlane Bowls Club, Table Tennis at the Geelong Table Tennis Centre, Indoor Cricket at Nimble Hits and Beach Volleyball at the Vic Beach Indoor Centre.

It has been great to see the students actively participating and having fun doing some familiar and some not so familiar activities at some of our great local facilities.
