Mandarin

Mr Yang

大家好(da jia hao),

In the last few weeks, we are very excited to welcome back students from different year levels to return to onsite learning. We had the opportunity to discuss what we have learnt in remote learning and continue to engage with the Chinese language in our lessons.

Junior level

Students from junior year levels are learning to identify words and short phrases to express their preferences towards animals and colours. They have been learning to build new words by combining familiar words learnt from previous Terms.

I am looking forward to meeting the preps and year ones back at school this week!

Middle level

Year two and three students will continue to learn the word order in making Chinese sentences by asking and answering simple questions about directions and locations. Students will learn how to give direction and describe the location of objects.

In the classes, we have played some language games to help students to remember the vocabulary and also practised our handwriting in Chinese.

Senior  level

Students from senior level are encouraged to continue to use Chinese as a classroom language to conduct daily conversations. They are learning to read bilingual signs, comparing Chinese words to their English equivalent, and recognise how key characters in expressions contribute to the overall meaning.

Students are preparing a weather report in Chinese and they will use familiar vocabulary of the weather and time to form sentences to give simple speeches.

Xie Xie (谢谢!)
