Grade 1/2

Grade 1s and 2s have been doing Author's Study as part of their Literacy program. Over the last few weeks, there has been a focus on Roald Dahl, a much loved children's author. This week, the students were given a range of activities, including creating new characters for a Roald Dahl story and inventing new products to sell at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory!

When creating new characters, students had to write descriptions to help us build very clear pictures of their characters in our minds. Read some examples below and have a go at sketching what you think the character may look like.

Character Name: Cecil Wantalot

Character Description: His eyes are orange with the darkest pupil. He is so ugly you can barely look at him. He is so demanding his Mum can't hear anymore. His body is so chubby it's 3 metres long with a metre long outty belly button. His ears are as big as an elephant's and his nose is as long as a pencil. His hair is as brown as poo.

Character Name: Ezra Chump

Character Description: He's as small as a tortoise and as heavy as a bear. He is as smelly as Mr & Mrs Twit's poop combined. He is as destructive as a jackhammer and as mean as a bean. He is so disrespectful. He eats kids and babies.

Character Name: Eliza Grubster

Character Description: Eliza Grubster was covered in slugs and mud it was so disgusting. She was rude, bossy and picky. She had brown curly hair that had knots all through it. She lived in the city where she spread her nits and bugs at school. She had no friends.

WOULD YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT???

Students have also been learning about persuasive writing. Part of their Literacy tasks this week was to create and market a new sweet. They then had to write a short description to persuade Willy Wonka to hire them as his new inventor!
