HOUSE GAMES 2021

The House Games on Friday the 26th November was a huge success. Students were bursting with anticipation all week to

 meet Olympian Tess Lloyd and Paralympian Al Viney. Both athletes shared their inspirational stories and stayed back for some question and answer sessions with students. They were both very impressed with our school and thanked us for having such a great group of children.

The day began with speeches from Venice (12P), Henry (36H), Ollie (12P) and Mia (36H) to induct the Bunurong names and birds to each house. Their speeches were heartfelt and inspirational. 

Students and teachers wore their house colours with pride. Our houses support students by creating a community within a community. Students were able to form stronger bonds and relationships with others in the same house, all while respecting the other house members. There was a great sense of comradery amongst the teams as they all had to join forces and support one another. I noticed the students all stepped up and played as a team. I know from my childhood memories the whole school events like these are the ones I still have fond memories of. 

I must mention that these days don't happen without all the extra effort from my amazing team and community:

• Mrs Breen who coordinated the donated fruit for the students and supported 3/6H. 
• Mr Huynh for setting up assembly, creating a video and helping the students with their speeches.
• Mr Vines offering support in planning and preparing for the day.
• Pikachu for clocking up the most steps, overseeing the smooth running of events and handing out certificates.
• All the classroom teachers and teacher aides for their dress ups, enthusiasm, pre-work with students and managing the fast paced rotations.
• Parents for getting your children dressed in house colours and prepared for their games. 
• Jake and Corey from Theircare for their help in planning, setting up and smooth running of events and for donating the much needed zooper doopers! 
• Kym and Christine from the office for their assistance in communications and coordinating extra dress up for the students.
• Ms Shillinglaw for her calm energy in supporting the students to stay positive and hand out certificates.
• Ms Michael for organising a back up ART lessons in case of rain.
• Gunuwarra staff team for joining alliances with Tharowerag staff and claiming the teacher tug of war victory! 

NETBALL FUN IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Over the last few weeks our students have been learning about netball skills. To finish off our wonderful term and celebrate our learning we had Olivia Lewis from the Melbourne Vixens Netball Team and our very own Jake Schuster who plays for the New Zealand Men's Netball Team volunteer their time. 

Thank you Olivia and Jake for inspiring us with your own professional careers and the expert advice you gave us on technique. We look forward to working with you again next year.
