Upcoming parent workshops 

Understanding Sleep Hygiene, 4th August, 5:30pm - 6:30pm, Free

 

Sleep is essential for young people to feel their best and do their best, but many young people get far less sleep than they need.

Headspace Greensborough, in partnership with Austin Health Youth Engagement and Treatment Team Initiative (YETTI), will be delivering an information webinar for parents/carers and members of the community.

This information session, run by experienced Youth Mental Health Clinicians, aims to explore why many young people don’t get enough good quality sleep and will explore practical sleep hygiene tailored for young people.

 

Who can attend?

Current family, friends & carers of YETTI & headspace Greensborough clients, as well as any other members of the local community.

Supporting young people with Autism, 11th August, 7-9pm, $5

 

Join Amaze for a two hour session on how to support young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

In this face to face session, you’ll learn important information about autism, and strategies you can use to support and engage autistic young people in different situations.

This session will cover:

  • Find out more about autism, and how individuals may experience autism differently.
  • Understand how autistic people process information, and where support may be needed.
  • Learn support strategies you can apply in your environment immediately.

This session is suitable for parents, carers and grandparents of teenagers and young adults who are yet to receive NDIS support.

Join Road Smart to learn helpful tips on teaching your young person how to drive. Delivered online, this one hour session covers the essentials of supervising a learner driver including:

  • How the Graduating Licencing System (GLS) works
  • Taking a staged approach to learning
  • Choosing a safe vehicle
  • Reducing your Learner's risk of crashing on their Ps
  • Tips for helping you and your Learner stay calm and drive safely.

This event is suitable for parents, carers and grandparents of young people who are commencing or currently learning to drive.

Naked Truths #Consent

Body Safety Australia are the consent education specialists.

NAKED TRUTHS #Consent is a workshop for parents and carers wanting to empower their children in understanding and enacting consent.

We understand that starting a conversation about consent can be tricky. Body Safety Australia give parents conversation starters and answers to some frequently asked teen questions.

This online session will cover:

  • Informed consent
  • Setting and respecting boundaries
  • Empowering bystanders
  • Nudes & sexting

Workshops are trauma informed and speakers are experienced in facilitating safe and empowering conversations. This session is suitable for parents, carers and grandparents of teenagers.

Coming soon:  a brand new Student Wellbeing facility 

 

St Helena Secondary College is excited to announce an additional student wellbeing space which will be opening at the College

 

Overlooking the College Netball courts, this space will assist the College to further support our students.  

 

The Space will contain

  1. Four new office spaces for our College Social Worker, Youth Worker, Wellbeing Leading Teacher and a range of other external mental health professionals who will come into the College to work with students in need.
  2. A small group programs room for preventative and early intervention wellbeing programs and our dog therapy program.
  3. A larger programs room for delivery of wellbeing workshops for students, teachers, and families.
  4. A regulation space for students who need some quick support before returning to class.
  5. Access to information and resources to support positive mental health.

The new space will be governed by processes and procedures that we will make available to all staff, students and parents in the coming weeks.
