Co-curricular - Junior Sport

If you blinked, you may have missed the Winter season. Due to the weather and oval closures, we experienced many delays and cancelations this winter; so many that some teams struggled to get half of their fixtures played. It is a credit to all our boys and their coaches for the commitment, persistence, and flexibility they displayed all season.

I would like to thank all the parents and carers for their tireless work getting the boys to each of their games and the unconditional support they showed on the sidelines. It certainly helped create an enjoyable atmosphere and helped get the boys up for a victory in some close games throughout the 10 weeks of the Winter season.

To all our staff, parents/carers and external coaches, a big thank you for all the hours that go into planning and implementing training sessions and for your commitment on Saturdays. It is only through your guidance and development of the boys that we are able to experience success both as individual teams and as a playing group. I know that all the boys appreciate everything you have done for them this Winter season.

Lastly to the Junior School boys. While not the season I had hoped for you after so much disruption, we need to be thankful that we were able to get out and play throughout Winter. You have all shown great development over the course of this season and have done the Blue, Black and Gold proud each Saturday morning. I have enjoyed the comradery you have displayed, the enjoyment you have shown, and the large proportion of boys who have celebrated wins with the College War-Cry at the end of matches.

For all our Year 6 boys, I wish you all the best as you continue your Winter sport experience next year in the Senior School. For those in Year 5, I look forward to seeing you all out on the fields next year, hopefully in better conditions than we experienced this season.

A reminder that all Winter sport training has now ceased. Debating and Junior School Justice (JSJ) continues as normal, with Athletics training occurring Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school. Term 4 sees the recommencement of the Summer season. All boys involved in Term 1 are expected to continue their commitments to their Summer teams for the second half of the Summer season. Boys involved in the Summer Skills Program in Term 1, will also be expected to continue in Term 4.

This Saturday is ‘Back to Breen Day’. This is a fantastic day, with an unrivaled atmosphere. One that must be experienced to be believed. As the Junior School was unable to have their Supporters’ Day this year, I encourage all boys in the Junior School and their families to come out this Saturday and experience the First XI Football and First XV Rugby fixtures. This is not a compulsory day for the boys in the Junior School to attend, however it would be a welcome opportunity for the boys to come and support the senior teams. I know both Firsts sides really look forward to the Junior School support, so it would be great to see as many Junior School boys as possible out at ‘Back to Breen Day’.
