I’m Erin Winstanley and I am one of your Athletics Captains for 2023. My athletics journey began at my local little athletics, City North. Here, I found my love for all things running and was fortunate enough to compete at a state level alongside my fellow teammates.

I’m Giselle Shaw; I'm also your Athletics Captain for 2023. I’ve been doing athletics for eight years now (through both Little and Queensland Athletics), and some of my favourite events include sprint hurdles, 100 and 200 metres, and long and high jump.

With CASSSA fast approaching, our athletes have been working hard to push PBs and strive for success. Our squad has been training hard on Monday and Wednesday mornings, as well as Thursday afternoon, to build technique and ability. Last Friday we took on our first meet. Here our athletes pushed themselves and one another to run that bit faster and/or throw that bit further. Our team looks on track to do well at this year’s CASSSA competition; however, we are unfortunately lacking competitors in our distance events, high jump, and hurdles. If you are interested in competing in these events, please contact the Sports Office.

At Mount Alvernia, athletics is the perfect opportunity for vast involvement. We offer amazing support from a variety of coaches, to give every student a chance to learn and excel on the track and the field. Every year we come together as ONE team, to smash goals and encourage our teammates to do their best.

If you are still interested in participating in Mt A Athletics in 2022, it is so important that you show up to training and the meets. Athletics can be an awesome way to de-stress and take your mind off assignments, especially when you bring your friends along. So… bring your friends, have a go, and smash your person best’s! Let’s build new friendships and connections, make memories, and encourage each other to reach our utter most potential.

So finally, reflect on these final words:

Show up.

Do the work.

Get better.

Stay positive.

Do good.

Keep pushing every day.
