Year 7 students on the first day of Term 3.

From the Dean of Teaching and Learning, Kathy Paul

Learning New Experiences

As part of the School’s Professional Learning schedule on Thursday 21 July, the Dean of Teaching and Learning with the Heads of Department visited Curtin University to see some of their innovative learning spaces including the Nursing Simulation Suite, Engineering Pavilion and the School of Design and the Built Environment. The Curtin University visit enabled the School’s Heads of Department to see progressive teaching and learning spaces which are collaborative and flexible in their design for students to help inform our teaching practices at John Wollaston, providing broader opportunities for student learning.

From the Dean of Pastoral Care, Kylie Virgo

Welcome back to Term 3.

At our Secondary online assembly this week we announced the winners of our Inter-House competitions that occurred late last term. Congratulations to Ramsden House for winning the Inter-House Chess Tournament while Hale were victorious in the Uno Competition. We also recognised the students who were awarded Colours in recognition of their Cross Country performance and the students who were awarded a Character Merit award for achieving top Character Domain ratings in their Semester 1 report.

Congratulations to all of these students.

This week the Year 11s continued their Sigma Leadership Program with David Castelanelli with his session titled:  Beyond belief: Achieving your wildest dreams. David imparted his advice and wisdom encouraging the students to continue being a kid when they consider their dreams; to have energy, to be fearless, to be excited. He discussed the idea of success being a choice and motivated the students to put aside fear and doubt in order to succeed. We look forward to David completing the program over the next three weeks and retuning to work with our Year 12s.

In a couple of weeks time Team JWACS will be sleeping out at Optus Stadium for the annual Anglicare School Sleepout. We will be roughing it in support of Anglicare WA's youth homelessness service, Street Connect that provides outreach, counselling and support to young people experiencing homelessness via its mobile youth resource facility – the Street Connect Bus.

If you would like to support Team JWACS you can donate to the team via:

https://www.anglicarewaschoolsleepout.org.au/t/team-john-wollaston

All donations received will help keep the Street Connect bus on the streets of Perth, helping WA’s most vulnerable young people.

We look forward to a great term ahead.

Senior Production Night

The Year 11/12 Drama class presents Girl Asleep by Matthew Whittet. It’s the late 1970s and Greta Driscoll is chronically shy, and much to her dismay her parents have invited her entire year to her 15th birthday party. When her beloved music box is stolen from her she goes on a through-the-looking glass style adventure, meeting a cast of curious – and vaguely familiar – characters, as she attempts to retrieve her childhood from the grips of a silent crone. Featuring awkward dance scenes, goblins, aging queens, and live music this production proves that you’re never too old to dream and enjoy some happy mayhem.
