Deputy Principal Update

Dear Families,

I hope the week has started off smoothly for everyone. It’s amazing how quickly the two weeks between newsletters flies. Although the weather hasn’t improved much, it’s nice to see that the days are starting to be a bit longer. There have been some impressive sunsets recently. When leaving work each night, it’s nice to stop and look across the school oval at them.

This week we welcomed back Miss Mercuri from her holiday to Italy with her family. It has been great listening to her share stories from travels to different parts of the country. I think it has inspired the travel bug in a few other adults. The children in her class gave her a big welcome back on Wednesday. A big thank you also to Miss McDonald who taught her class during this time.

Sacramental Program:

This weekend is a very important one for our school and parish community. A number of children have been busy preparing for receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist over the past months. We pray for the parish of St Brendan’s as well as this is an important occasion for the community.

Please keep the following children and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this special time.

Annalise Gallace,  Flynn Gemmill,                        Zoe Kirby, Anastasia Greco,  Zoe Liddell, Charlie Muston, Joshua Nardella, Ella Niglia, Luke Putman, Zacchaeus Mustey, Reese Opie,  Aaron Stino.

Welcome:

A warm welcome to two new people here at St Luke’s. Mr. Marcus Ruggi and Mrs. Robyn Battista who are currently working with us as Learning Support Officers. We are very grateful for the wonderful support they are giving to children across the school.

Book Week:

A reminder that Book Week is just around the corner (next week). It officially begins on the 20th August and runs till the 26th August.  This year’s theme is ‘Dream with Eyes Wide Open.’

As a school we will be having our Book Week Parade on Friday 26th August, starting at 9:15am. This is the day when children can come dressed as a favourite character from a story. We will begin our day with a whole school parade where children can share their costumes with everyone. Parents/families are welcome to join us for this.

Last minute preparations are being made by staff in organising their costumes.

Book Week is a great opportunity for families to share and celebrate with one another a love of reading. One night you might like to have a ‘reading’ night at home, sharing favourite stories with one another or a device-free night where everyone spends some time reading. We look forward to celebrating a love of reading with the children next week at school.

Lost Property:

We have a ‘healthy collection’ of lost property at the moment in the office. There are a number of items including school clothing and assorted food containers. If you are missing any of these items, it might be worth popping in and checking some time so that they can be collected. It is important that all personal belongings are clearly named so that they can be returned to their owners when found. Many thanks.

Mass – Feast of the Assumption.

Last Monday, 15th August, the whole school travelled to Brendan’s Church to celebrate Mass together for the Feast of the Assumption. Thanks to Miss Levesque for organising a beautiful Liturgy for the school. Thanks also to the children for the respect and reverence shown during Mass. A couple of parishioners even commented to me on how respectful the children were. It was certainly a special occasion for us to be able to attend mass again in at St Brendan’s after such a long absence.

I’ll finish with a couple of photos of children helping to lead the liturgy.

Have a great fortnight everyone and take care.

Tony Mc.
