Journeying Together in Christ

Since the last newsletter I have been reminded several times on how many opportunities children have to share their success. From a major milestone of writing and reading a sentence in Foundation to a Year 6 student playing well in a football game. The most amazing aspect of my role in education is the unexpected. I do not know who will knock on my office door to show me some work, or what I may see when I walk through each classroom. I do not underestimate the joy children get when they show or verbally share with me something amazing.  A success story of one child may mean so much more than another. Every day is a new day.  I have a calendar of events to work through today. I may or may not achieve these. One thing I can guarantee, I will see something amazing from at least one child today. That is why I enjoy what I do.

Staffing News

We welcomed back Miss Mercuri on Wednesday from her overseas trip. It is great to have her back and I am sure the children missed her. We thank Miss McDonald for teaching her class.

Mobile Phones, Devices & the Online Gaming World

As parents we need to continually observe what our children are using their device for. A friendly reminder to have these conversations on a regular basis. Searching and sharing inappropriate material may be an offence. The online 'Gaming World' is another platform for young people to negotiate. As parents we must make sure we know to the best of our ability who our children are communicating with while playing on the Play station, X-box etc.

Tips:

-keep the door open so you can listen to conversations.

-general timetable for usage.

-make sure you know what game they are playing.

-choose a safe username that does not include personal information.

-watch out for in-app purchases.

-check any webcam concerns.

-if using an old device make sure you wipe previous information especially if it was a parents device.

No mobile phones or devices permitted at our Athletics Carnival.

Pupil Free Day News

Last Friday staff engaged in conversations and workshops. We started with discussions around all the variable to a school lockdown and reviewed our current policy. The last drill we did on Wednesday 20th July was a 'fire drill'. Our next drill will be a lockdown. If parents or visitors are present for any drills or real time incidents all we can ask is that you listen to the instruction of leadership or the staff member present.

Australian Football State Finals

See the sport section for the full details. It was a great journey to the state finals. Our school finished 5th in the State after winning our way through to the final eight teams. In very windy conditions the boys did well and finished the day with a big win. Mr Watts and I enjoyed our time with the team.

Upcoming Events

Continue to look at the gmail/PAM calendars or the calendar section in this newsletter for upcoming events.

Masses- see our Religious Education section for dates.

Volunteers- we held two inductions this week with 10 parents joining Tony (Tuesday) and myself (Thursday) For all volunteers an induction session must be held. We look forward to welcoming these people into the classrooms. We will share the names with staff so they can organise timetables and communicate this.
