OUTER EAST KESO TEAM NEWSLETTER

MELBOURNE WRITERS FESTIVAL

We're running an excursion to this year's Melbourne Writers Festival at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday 8 September for students in Years  7 - 10.

The English department has heavily subsidised the event to make it as affordable as possible for families.  It's a fabulous opportunity to hear established authors explain their process and tell their story.

Places are strictly limited, so make sure you register your interest by email to: Robert.Webb@education.vic.gov.au

Once registered, the event will show up on Compass for payment and consent. This is due by 8 August.  You can use CSEF to pay for it.

For more information about the festival, visit the MWF website

UNEXPLAINED ABSENCES

We ask all parents and carers to please assist us to fulfil our legal attendance obligations and approve unexplained absences on Compass for 2022.

It is DET (Department of Education and Training) policy that all student absences are accounted for.

If it is expected that your child will be away for more than two days, please communicate this with the relevant Sub School Office.

If you have forgotten your Compass username and password, please contact the Sub School Assistants.

STUDENTS EXITING LILYDALE HIGH SCHOOL

Parents/Carers, if you have a student who is transferring to a new school or exiting to employment or TAFE, you are required to complete EXIT paperwork. This can be obtained from the General Office.

Before a student is allowed to leave school, they must satisfactorily complete Year 10 and until the age of 17, they must be in some form of full-time training or employment. These are government requirements.

Students under the age of 17 wishing to undertake these options MUST provide proof of placement in the course or letter of offer from the employer.  They must participate in:

  • An average of at least 25 hours per week of approved education, training or employment or a combination of these or
  • A course of education or training considered to be full-time by the provider

Any students wishing to leave before these requirements are met, MUST put in a request for exemption to the Regional Director in consultation with Lilydale High School.

If you would like some advice on career pathways or training options, please book an appointment with Careers. Training options can include: VCAL, TAFE, Apprenticeship or Full time employment.

Students leaving school before the end of Year 12 are also required to attend and complete a Careers appointment.

If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Polkinghorne on 9735 5644 in the General Office.
