Prayer

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge and pay respect to the original and ongoing custodians of the land upon which our offices are situated.  We commit to actively working alongside First Nations people for healing, reconciliation and justice.

The Catholic education faith community is inclusive and acknowledges that we are all made in the image and likeness of God and we are created in love. People of all faiths, genders, sexualities, abilities and cultures are therefore respected equally in the Sandhurst Catholic community.

We acknowledge the pain and suffering of all who have been hurt in body, mind and spirit by those who have betrayed the trust placed in them.

May we all stand tall, stand firm, grounded in truth, together as one.

Celebrating The Word of God

A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew 11:25-30

Jesus said, 'I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

The Gospel of the Lord

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

Spiritual Reflection

As we struggle with the abundance of media information about ‘the Voice’ we are reassured in the knowledge that God and his Son Jesus walk with us during this time of discernment. We are never alone.

We do not need to work it out in our heads but in our hearts. What is God saying to my heart as I listen to the conversations about ‘the voice?’ What am I being called to do, say? Whilst fear tries hard to divert us away from our heart, Jesus gently offers to carry us, to walk with us, to hold us. May we know God’s voice as we discern.

  • What areas of your life are needing support right now?
  • How does it feel to hear Jesus say to you personally: ‘Come to me and I will give you rest’

Concluding Prayer

Loving Creator God

Be with us as we listen deeply

Be with us as we battle with our own fear

Be with us as we feel the discomfort within ourselves

Give us the courage to let go of fear, to reach out  and to finally feel the beat of our collective Australian heart

Amen
