Tutor Learning Initiative 2021

The 2020 school year was an extraordinary and challenging one for every school community.

With our students spending much of Terms 2 and 3 learning remotely, our Rangeview community made an exceptional effort to provide continuity of teaching and learning to our students during this time. We cannot thank our parents and carers enough for their support during this challenging period.

During Term 4 of 2020, we focused on supporting students’ mental health and wellbeing, in addition to assisting students to readjust to on-site learning. Teachers also focussed on assessing student learning, addressing individual learning gaps and identifying those students who may require extra support for their learning, using classroom-based observation and assessments.

We know that the remote learning experience was different for every student. While some students thrived, some students may not have engaged as fully with remote learning. For most of our students, regular high-quality teaching in 2020 was enough to help them progress to the expected level of learning. However, some students will benefit from additional intensive learning support in 2021.

As you may be aware, in response to this, the Victorian Government is investing $250 million in the Tutor Learning Initiative, to enable schools across Victoria to engage around 4,100 teachers as tutors in 2021, to support students who need extra assistance with their learning. At Rangeview Primary School, this initiative will be led by Tania Balderston with the support of Helga Shaw and Lisa O’Connor.

By engaging these additional teachers to support children with intensive learning, classroom teachers will have greater capacity to ensure that all other students’ achievement, engagement and wellbeing needs are met, so that all students receive the support they need in 2021.

We have been working to identify those students that may benefit from this program, and you will be notified if your child has been selected. Whilst we recognise that many children could benefit from the program, numbers are limited and students are selected based on various criteria. The program will be fluid and students will be moving on and off throughout the school year. Furthermore, components of the program will be implemented within the classroom to encompass the varied needs of a greater number of students.

If your child has been identified to take part in this program you will be provided with information. You may be contacted at any time throughout the year for your child to commence the program.

School Hats

A reminder that Rangeview Primary School is a SunSmart school and broad-brim hats must be worn by students outdoors during the high UV months. Caps are not permitted as they do not provide shade to the head, face, eyes, ears and neck.

Hats are part of our school uniform and can be purchased from PSW Uniforms or at the school office.

For more information, the free SunSmart app is available on smart devices to download.

Parking around the School

A reminder to families to adhere to all parking restrictions in the streets around our school.

We recognise that pick up and drop off time can be congested, however the restrictions are in place for the safety of our students and it is important that 2 minute parking zones are adhered to and the school and residential driveways are not blocked. Parking a little further away and walking is great for exercise and helps to keep our community safe.
