Kimochis

Social and Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning is a key area of development for children in the early years and is learnt through engagement and interaction with others. Some of these skills need to be taught explicitly and in context within a situation your child is experiencing in that moment.
This year we are doing a Research Project around social and emotional language development in children and will be accessing the Kimochi program to support your child.
Kimochi means "feeling" in Japanese. The curriculum is based on research which documents the finding that when instruction in building social, emotional and behavioural skills is provided at a young age, there is a positive effect on how children problem-solve and interact with their peers later in life. Your child will learn how to recognise and manage emotions, demonstrate care and concern for others, establish positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and handle challenging situations constructively. We will have fun and practical lessons each week that will teach your child these skills and more!
These past few weeks we have met Cloud and Lovey Dovey. Please see the introductions on each of these characters and some thoughts for home.
