Pastoral Care News

Welcome to 2021 and what I hope will be a wonderful year!!!! A particularly warm welcome to our new families and staff who have joined us and are now part of the extended Marian community.

The new school year brings many changes. Children transition to new classes; staff accept new roles and challenges, whilst others choose to take a new direction; stepping out of their comfort zone and taking a leap of faith to pursue personal and career goals. Whilst change can be daunting it is also the opportunity for new growth. 2020 was a year where many of us reflected on our lives. From what and who were important in our lives; as well as where we would like to see ourselves in the future. With reflection comes the realisation of identifying what steps are necessary for our dreams to become a reality. Sometimes change is forced upon us; we have to adapt and be resilient. There are things that happen that we cannot control; we just have to trust that this new direction is the path we are meant to be following.

Whatever the case, change can be wonderful

A new year also sees a new group of enthusiastic students leading our C.A.T aka the “Community Action Team”. For those who are new to MCC the C.A.T is a group of passionate students and staff who have a social conscience and wish to reduce the injustices and social disadvantage of those less fortunate within our community and as a direct result are making the world a better place. Following the teachings of St Vincent de Paul and the philosophy of SEE, THINK and DO the team is led by volunteers from Year 10, co-ordinating a range of activities and campaigns throughout the year. When planning our activities, we endeavour to promote one or more of the domains reflected in our MCC Vison statement; Care, Faith, Learning, Stewardship, Service and Mission. As we work for social justice and serve one another with charity, we are putting our faith into action. Meetings are informal and we are always looking for new members. Usually held on a Monday during lunch time in the back of the Library, students have the opportunity to contribute, develop leadership skills and be active citizens.

At today’s meeting we introduced our leadership team for 2021.

Krishi Patel, Hardi Patel and Jen Wong Our leaders for 2021

These young ladies have been involved in the team for many years; displaying commitment, maturity and enthusiasm and I look forward to seeing the direction they will take the team during this year.

The team will be supported by Mr Abdala who is the current “Acting Leader of Mission” replacing Mr Neville who relocated with his family to Albury at the end of 2020.

The team will meet again next week and finalise their plans for term 1, updating the school via student emails, homeroom announcements and subsequent newsletters.

Thank you to the families who have donated uniform items to our clothing pool. This collection of quality garments is accessed regularly. I also have a range of resources and stationary items available if required. For more information, please contact the front office.

Finally, I would like to say thankyou and farewell. This is my final week at MCC. I have been part of the MCC family since 2011 and earlier when my own children were students at the school. I have family commitments which were somewhat unexpected and require significant time and I have set myself a timeline to complete training which requires an extended placement therefore major adjustments had to be made to maintain a work/life balance. It was certainly not an easy decision to make but these steps are necessary if I am to achieve my goals and follow the direction that my path is heading.

I will look back fondly on my time here and am extremely grateful for the amazing support and generosity of the students, staff and wider MCC community.  So now it is my time to spread my wings, trust in the future and hope that my new pathway will lead me to where I am meant to be. xx
