GENERAL NEWS AND EVENTS
The Griffith Country Universities Centre is holding a Careers Close Up event to be run on Feb 28th.It is a great opportunity for Year 11 & 12 students (and parents) to come and ask questions of people working in that career as well as students currently studying or recently graduated from that degree.
We are running sessions on our most popular areas of study – but for future events we are happy to facilitate other areas of study if student demand is there.

Academy of Modern Languages: Online Short Courses James cook University Adults and students in Year 10, 11 and 12 can learn how to speak a variety of different languages. Choose from Mandarin, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish or Tok Pisin (PNG). The course runs for 10 weeks in total, with classes commencing the week beginning Monday 1 March 2021, and will be held weekly from 6pm – 8pm. Registrations will close Wednesday 24 February 2021. ANU’s Remote Learning Experience Webinar Series ANU has hosted a series of informative webinars, hosted by the ANU College of Science and the ANU College of Health & Medicine, speaking to current students studying different disciplines. Each webinar will focus on a different area of study, and the experiences of students studying in those fields, and what it has been like to shift from studying on campus, to studying remotely. SCHOLARSHIPS
Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) -A $5000 payment is now available to school-leavers from regional or remote areas who move away from home to take full-time, higher-level tertiary education. Macquarie University manages the Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) program for the Commonwealth. Applications close March 1 2021
Most importantly, students can receive TAP even if they are in receipt of other payments.

EARLY ENTRY
It is important to be aware that information regarding early entries to universities will be posted in the Year 12 classroom and on Compass. Some will open as early as March!
WORK EXPERIENCE
Monash Hands on Health Virtual Work Experience
Following the success of the virtual program in 2020, Monash is once again offering its Hands on Health Virtual Work Experience program to students from Victoria and interstate.
Using online collaborative tools, Monash’s unique two-day program will increase access to work experience opportunities for students from across Australia. The program will give participants an opportunity to:
- learn about health careers and pathways to study them at Monash
- learn interpersonal skills that healthcare workers require
- gain knowledge that is helpful in solving healthcare problems
- interact with medicine, nursing and allied healthcare students
- practice healthcare skills and participate in hands-on workshops
There are several dates the program will run in Terms 1 and 2 2021. Registration closes on Friday 19 February at 11.59pm AEDT. Learn more
ANU Astronomy Work Experience
The Mount Stromlo Observatory offers a limited number of work experience places to year 10, 11 and 12 students each year. These placements are typically one week in duration and students work on an astronomical project under the supervision of professional astronomers.

Taronga Zoo Work Experience SydneyApplications for 2021 are now open and will close Friday 28 February 2021 there are very limited places due to a rollover from 2020.students in years 10 – 12 who are interested in pursuing a career in zoo keeping, animal care, tourism or zoo horticulture.
