Principal News

As it is, God has put all the separate parts into the body as he chose. If they were all the same part, how could it be a body? As it is, the parts are many but the body is one. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” and nor can the head say to the feet, “I have no need of you.” What is more, it is precisely the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest which are the indispensable ones.”

1 Corinthians 12:18-23– A letter of St Paul to the Corinthians

Together we will clearly achieve more. We need each other, let us encourage each other to be the best we can...and as one group. As we begin the school year let us continue to remember the words of St Paul.

Welcome to Term 1- 2021

Dear Parents, Students and Friends

Welcome to the 2021 school year. I trust that the break has rejuvenated and energised you, hopeful for a successful new year. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless our school and all those who contribute to fulfilling God’s promise of “The Way, The Truth and The Life.”

Already it is Week Three of the term calendar and as usual much has already happened. This newsletter is full of reports of these important events and I hope that you have time to have a read. Our school student population has grown somewhat in number this year. There are 725 students currently enrolled. Our new Year 7 students (134 students) are looking ready and eager to begin their journey through high school and I wish them every success and photos of their first days are in this newsletter. Parent Information evening is this Thursday 11 February in the Hall at 6pm. Key staff will give an update on how they are settling into high school.

2020 HSC Results

The 2020 HSC results were the best ever at Marian! The best since records of the current HSC have been kept across all schools in NSW. In basic terms the College finished in the esteemed top 200 schools in NSW and ranked 53rd in all Catholic schools in NSW and in the top group of all country NSW schools.  Our HSC results demonstrate that our College provides an excellent education for our students and that we have great teachers.

Congratulations to all 2020 YR 12 HSC students, the College wishes each and every one of you future success as you venture into post school life!

Last Thursday Marian celebrated the 2020 HSC results at the Dux and High Achievers Assembly. Piriyarathan Karunapalan was our worthy 2020 Dux with an ATAR of 98.25. Piri’s Dux speech more details about the 2020 High Achievers follow in the newsletter.

Student Timetables

There are significant changes to student routines this year. They have all been briefed about them. As a summary, we have changed to a two week timetable and lessons, whilst still five lessons a day, each lesson is one hour in length with the day still starting at 8:55am but now finishing at 3:15pm. This should alleviate congestion at the pick-up/drop-off carpark in Macarthur St. Parents can use the drop-off/pick-up area either through the Macarthur St entrance or along Hickey Crescent. Students can wait inside the College grounds and there is no need to rush to pick them up. No students should be crossing Wakaden St. Students heading towards the town centre must walk along the College side of Wakaden St, cross Macarthur St and then proceed towards the railway crossing. Students have been briefed about these road safety requirements.

Farewell Sue Hone

Today we farewell Sue Hone from the Marian staff. Sue has been our Pastoral Care Worker for many years and has made an enormous impact in our community through her efforts to make the College Mission alive, particularly in the areas of Service, Care and Steawardship. Sue has a huge heart for others and has led in her time here in so many ways. She has supported many families in need and helped students and staff alike when they needed it. In her gentle and unassuming way she has shown all of us how to be better humans and along the way she has given us growth. Our College will never forget what you have done for us and how you have inspired us to be true witnesses to our College motto, “The Way, The Truth, The Life”God bless and best wishes in all your future endeavours.

Finally, welcome to our new staff and students. We look forward to your involvement in College life at Marian. I have included a complete list of our 2021 Staff in this newsletter.
