Community Spirit & Leadership Award | 2020

Congratulations to Tayla Steele for winning the 2020 Community Spirit & Leadership Award! Following Tayla’s nomination, she and her family attended the online presentation by Clare O’Neil MP Federal Member for Hotham. As Ms. O’Neil noted: “Never has there been a more important year to give recognition to community spirit and leadership.” Tayla was a worthy awardee, and said: “The award ceremony went really well. It ran smoothly. Clare was really supportive and proud of everyone that received an award. Normally, all the award winners would be invited to a school in the area for an afternoon tea and the presentation of awards but that obviously couldn’t happen this year. Under the circumstances, Clare and her team did really well in planning the ceremony “Community Spirit and Leadership awards 2020."

The College is very proud of Tayla’s Leadership spirit shown in 2020.

World’s Greatest Shave | 2020 Wrap-Up

Even though we couldn’t hold our usual school event, the Wheelers Hill Secondary College community have shown incredible support for the Leukaemia Foundation. Our intrepid team still helped to ‘shave’ the world from blood cancer by colouring their hair or shaving their heads remotely and we have raised over $4500 thanks to the generosity of our community in this challenging year.

Congratulations to our team of fundraisers, which included staff members Jane Callaghan and Pedro Mello, and students Paige C, Iliana S, Amy P, Lacey Q, Lachlan P, Harrison C, Shay C and Taylah H.

Student Representative Council

Congratulations to all students involved in the SRC leadership team this year! In a year like no other, the students have still been able to coordinate events for their peers. We have run the World’s Greatest Shave remotely, organised a remote talent show and coordinated movie screenings for the Middle School on Wellbeing Wednesdays. We had a very successful remote Trivia event that was attended by students from all year levels, and we were proud to be able to offer students the chance to come together remotely and support each other. We also sent student representatives to Congress, where they engaged with issues affecting students in schools across Victoria. Well done to all of our SRC leaders, and thank you to everyone in the community who supported our initiatives this year!
