Be the light...

Hello lovely families,

I can sparkle. So I’ve been told.

Apparently, my personality brings energy and life to others. I have struggled to see this in myself…I am my own best critic after all. I know that I love people and want to believe the best in them. I’ll always strive to give more that I receive and try not get caught in gossip. That’s my personality, and something I want to thank my parents for propagating.

I don’t always get things right, and often don’t meet everyone’s needs, but as I grow I’m learning that that’s okay. And that’s the point…I’m a work in progress. We all are. But on the whole, I know that my brand of positivity and joy can bring light to those around me.

So how can we best be light to others?

Light represents guidance, direction, hope, safety and understanding.  Light is the source that we always look for in darkness so as to escape from unsafe, anxiety, confused and disoriented feelings. We all hope that we can carry strong lights or we can strongly reflect the light when lights fall upon us. In other words, we can develop a strength within ourselves which can become the source of our light.

The best thing we can do is start with us. Be a pillar of light not only for ourselves, but for others. As a pillar of light, we become the light on someone’s darkest days. Essentially, by being a pillar of light, we can be an example for others by showing them hope. We can start by looking after ourselves. By taking care of ourselves, we can have more capacity to bring comfort and joy that will enable those around us to do the same.

So drink plenty of water, fuel your bodies well,  laugh - total heartfelt, exhausting laughter, carve out time to have a family dance party in the living room, walk along the beach, read a good book, listen to music and take time to spend with people you love; all of these things help to fill your tank. By filling your tank, you grow your capacity to be good for others. And when you shine…others will reflect that light too. It’s contagious!

While 2020 wasn’t perhaps what any of us had expected, we have all reached the light at the end of the lockdown. We have done that well, and we have done it together! There is a lot of light that I see in this community as we all care for each other. I hope that you will feel the love and light of this new season, and enjoy the excitement that the holidays bring!

Have a wonderful holiday break everyone!

Sending love to all.

Caring Casseroles

Thank you to our wonderful parents who have put up their hands to help make a meal for our Caring Casseroles initiative!

For those who aren't aware, the Caring Casseroles rotation is a group of parents who are willing to make meals on a rolling roster type system so that when a family in our community is in need, then a lovingly prepared meal can be delivered to them to make their lives that little bit easier for a day.  And we have need in our community right now!

If you or your child has a heart for others, and you enjoy being able to care in a practical way, then this is a great chance for you to be a part of a great team to do just that!

All you need to do, is express your interest and I’ll put you on the rolling roster to cook a meal every now and then.  We can then pop it in the school freezer ready to give at the appropriate time. It would be fantastic to get this up and running for the remainder of the year.

If this sounds like you and/or your child could please let me know as soon as possible.
