BEBRAS 2018

The first of the Bebras Challenges was held in March this year with over 350 students across Years 7, 9 and 10 taking part. In Year 9, we had two students who gained a Merit award which is an outstanding result given that they are competing in a level aimed at Year 10 students. These student were Connor MacDougall and Karleen Han.

In Year 7, we had two students who gained a High Distinction and one student gaining a Distinction. These were Ryan Jusni with a score of 123 out of a possible 135, Evan Lin with a score of 117 and William Yan with a score of 102. Again, these are exceptional results given that these students are competing in the same level as Year 8 students internationally.

GROK WEB COMPETITION

After five weeks of hard work, determination and creativity, several of our team of Grokkers completed the recent Web Challenge. This particular year it was enormously encouraging to see how many of the students took part in the final competition against students from countries around the world including Malaysia, Zimbabwe and the UK. The following students submitted their final designs for voting and many were placed high up on the leaderboards:

Emma Farrell - merit

Korben Brough - high distinction

Casandra Joseph - high distinction

Aayush Bhale - high distinction

Danny Birkett - high distinction

Karleen Han - perfection

Jenny Huang - perfection

Michael Yang - perfection

Khue Nguyen - perfection

Nicholas Livanos - perfection

Ariel Golembo - perfection

As an IT teacher, it was very rewarding to see so many of the group pushing right to the end of the journey and I am sure these students gained a wealth of knowledge on creating websites and a large helping of personal satisfaction. Thanks to all the staff who took part in the voting even though I could not quite work out how to pick our own students.
