Specialist Showcase

Library Discovery Centre
National Simultaneous Storytime has been celebrated in the DC this week. We have read “Alpacas with Maracas”, plus some other Matt Cosgrove books, learnt about alpacas, and of course completed some fun art activities too.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Last year was the biggest and most successful NSS with over 1,062,230 participants, and this year they are hoping to break this record.
Anna Ciddor writing competition
Author/Illustrator visited our school last term and spoke to the Year 4-6 students. She gave them many writing tips, and then challenged them to enter her writing competition.
The following students won the prizes kindly supplied by Anna.
Talia Southey (4CR ), Sofia Cifone (4EP) Jessica Cumming (6SK) and Alyssa Martin (6SK). Congratulations girls!
Book of the week
“Stand up for the future” is a book which celebrates the achievements of young Australians. This book is brought to life by colourful illustrations from local artists and encourages readers to create positive social change. It is a companion book to the other biographical book which have recently been published including - “High five to the boys” and “Goodnight stories for rebel girls”.
Mandarin - Year Four
Year Four students have learned a popular song about mothers in Mandarin and have made Mother’s Day cards in Mandarin. They are getting more familiar with the Pinyin (pronunciation) system in Mandarin and are learning to read out new words according to the pronunciation.
Year Four students have been enjoying learning the story ‘Three Little Pigs’ in Mandarin and are able to copy sentences in the story. Students will do a role play of ‘Three Little Pigs’ in Mandarin after finishing the story.
