HORTICULTURE

On Thursday 25th October, Year 10 & 11 Horticultural Students from Footscray City College walked down to Footscray Park with a wheelbarrow filled with young plants they had grown in the school nursery. The Council had been finding it difficult to source some of the more unusual plants which are significant to Footscray Park heritage gardens. The Tree Dahlias had proved difficult to source in the past so students spent time with Council Gardener, Andrew Boyce, who taught them how to propagate these and a number of other plants. The students enjoyed being able to plant the new plants as well as having a look around the new play space and learning about the playground’s construction process. The students enjoyed working with Parks and Gardens Horticulture Teams and with Martin Forster (Park Ranger) at Footscray Park and other parks in the area and look forward to future projects.
