LIBRARY NEWS

From the Library..
Welcome to Week 5, it is hard to believe we are halfway through the term and Christmas is coming quick!
With only a couple of weeks of our Jackie French unit to go, we are enjoying the last few books that we will be reading across K-6. K-2 are learning about a vital piece of clothing this week, in particular, underwear. We are laughing our way through ‘Queen Victoria’s Underpants’ discovering how they came to be worn in England and how Her Majesty made them popular. I think they are more amused at finding out ladies didn’t wear any until this time, there have been lots of giggles. Stage 2 will be reading two Jackie French Books this week, ‘Pete the Sheep’ and ‘Good Dog Hank’ and beginning to investigate the common themes that appear in French’s texts.
Stage 3 begin their research task after reading the Disaster series (Fire, Flood, Drought, Cyclone) with a particular focus on finding ‘good’, authentic information. ‘Back in the day’, our research came predominantly from encyclopaedias, however, our children have access to a vast amount of information at their fingertips thanks to the internet. Learning how to find, evaluate, organise and use this information forms an important (but less well known) part of library studies. I will keep you posted on their progress.
Year 10 - Library Books
With only a couple of weeks of school left, it is important that Year 10 students make an effort to return any overdue library books and English texts as soon as possible. I have emailed reminders to all students, but I will be starting to follow these up this week. To avoid receiving a replacement invoice, if you could remind your children to bring them in, that would be appreciated. It is amazing how many of the kids have them sitting on their desk at home (or even in their school bag!) and just ‘forget’ to bring them in. Hopefully, they will all be returned soon.
Scholastic Book Club
A big thank you to the families who ordered from the last Book Club for the year and it was finalised last week. Orders usually take a couple of weeks to process so we expect to receive them in Week 7, as soon as they arrive we will distribute them to students.
They’re Back!
Two of the most eagerly awaited sequels to beloved series arrived last week and they went straight out the door! Aaron Blabey’s ‘Bad Guys 8’ and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid 13’ by Jeff Kinney are very popular additions to our collection and it’s great to see everyone so excited to get their hands on them. I have included a photo of Kobe, our first borrower of the ‘Bad Guys 8: Superbad’ book.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Yesterday, I received notification that the certificates for participants of the PRC are on their way. Once I receive these, I will distribute them to all students during a weekly assembly. Again, congratulations to all those students who participated, it is a huge effort!
I hope you all have a great week,
Mrs Fraser
